06.24.20 Three Sisters
The Three Sisters (corn, squash and fava beans) have taken possession of most of the garden plot at this early point in summer. These companion plants have long been favored by our ancestors in early agricultural practices because they grow well together. The corn stalks provide a strong trellis for beans to climb up and the squash shade the ground, holding moisture and nutrients for the trio. Exactly what our human communities need more of these days; companionship and mutual support.
