02.08.20 Dragon Fruit and Kumquats
And suddenly, you are the proud owner of a dragon fruit tree. Luis came to the Vista Crop Swap with a truck full of trees and plants, and gave them away to anyone crop swapping. As I was walking away with my new dragon fruit tree, a man stopped me to give full instructions on how to pollinate the large white flowers. Because our bat population is on the decline, we need to do the job ourselves with a paintbrush, and at midnight when the flower is at full bloom; the fun never ends!
I also crop swapped several handfuls of kumquats for my bunching onions, limes and oranges. My friends are having a barbecue tomorrow and I thought a little kumquat infused vodka would go a long way.
Quarter two handfuls of kumquats and remove seeds.
Add kumquats and vodka to a sealed glass jar.
Marinade for at least 24 hours.
I’ll serve it with some sparkling water and a dash of that carob syrup I made the other day.
